Podolševa is a dispersed highland community set below the summit ridge of Olševa and the Karavanke range. Above the settlement, at the western end of the mighty Olševa ridge and close to the Austrian frontier, is the renowned Potocka Zijalka Cave where archaeological finds made during the 1920's provided evidence that testify to its being a home to Stone Age man called The Cromanion some 35,000 years ago. Past Potočka zijalke one can follow the path up to the summit of Olševa where splendid views over Karinthia and deep into Austria, all the way to Grossglockner.

Most farmsteads in Podolševa lie at an altitude excessing 1,100 metres, making them some of the highest lying in Slovenia; indeed the Bukovnik farm (1,327 metres) is the country's highest. The green hamlet of Podolševa is characterized by a baroque church of the Holy Spirit (Sv. Duh) with its interesting relief of the Holy Trinity, with a gothic goblet and an even older church bell.

Podolševa is accessible by way of the Panoramic Road which leads north from Solčava village. It is called 'panoramic' due to its excellent views on the Savinja Alps. It stays at the altitude of 1200 meters and leads past a mineral water spring to the valleys of Matkov kot and Logarska dolina.
