Golica v Krejdi

Golica v Krejdi, which bears testimony to a number of past geological occurrences, is located opposite the Alpine Dairy Cottage at Kot. Here the strata has been exposed by the torrential Kotovec stream (this is the local name for the upper stream of the Savinja before it confluences with Jezera) - hydraulic action by the stream has cut a swathe through the valley floor, revealing it in full cross section. From this it can be seen that the underlying bedrock at Kot is covered by a small-grained red-brown sand and calcareous sinter conglomerate. This material is obviously preglacial, due to the fact there is a layer of glacial moraine on top of it. After the glacier receded, a lake covered the valley, illustrated by the thick uppermost layer of sedimentary clay.
